I have celebrated Christmas, gotten sick, traveled out of town.  When I logged back into WOW, the first thing I thought was- God that transmog has to go.

It wasn’t a horrible transmog I guess, but Chatmay is not a sex-ninja or whatever that skimpy thing was.

So here is the slightly altered transmog- I just changed a few things:

Chatmay is Back

Hood of the Faceless Shroud
Arcanoweave Robe
Shadowsummoner Spaulders

This is more of a lock look to me.  Let me know what you think!

My Craziest Hunter Tame Ever

We’ve all heard the word “huntard.”  But even though everyone jokes about hunters being huntards, no one actually wants to be known as one.

My recent hunter experience, though, left me feeling a bit inadequate.

First off, let me say that my hunter is an alt.  I started raiding with her in cata but only as a backup for my husband’s team.  Towards the end of cata, she had respectable dps and item level, but it isn’t like I’m an experienced hunter vet.

Up until cata, the only difficult pet I had tamed was my white beetle from the former AQ40 raid.  My husband’s paladin took me in there and pulled mobs of beetles, while I ran around trying to tame one while being punted all over the place.  I named that beetle “Trouble,” but he was worth it as far as I was concerned.

During cata though, people constantly mentioned a rare pet that had just come out- Ban’thalos the owl in Mount Hyjal.

Ban’thalos

There were at least three times that I traveled as fast as my dranei legs could take me over to Hyjal to try to attain this bird.  Every time I went was fail though because other hunters would steal it from me by doing things like hitting tame first even though I had trapped it, etc….  I became so enraged at the whole idea of even attempting to tame this pet, that I pretty much said I would never have it.

Fast forward to last week.  I had deleted a profession to train mining, and I was up to obsidium in Hyjal.  I had one free pet slot that I had saved.  It suddenly occured to me…well, I could go get that stupid bird.  (I actually looked for the rare turtle first, but he wasn’t around.)

It’s not that I really wanted the bird by this point.  I even considered killing it if it was there just to spite everyone.  But something in me wanted to say- hey, I tamed Ban’thalos.

Several deaths and at least 20-30 minutes later, I still had not tamed this pet.  I had tried standing at several places on top of the statue/monument thing at Sanctuary of Malorne as well as several ledges behind trees around the statue.  He was always either out of range from standing position or I would die from fall damage if I flew up to shoot at him.

At this point I decided to consult Wowhead.  Good ‘ol Wowhead.com.  I decided to try another method, which involved falling backwards/disengaging into the lake near the owl’s flying area.

Two more deaths.  This time from stupid mistakes like pressing the wrong button.  Maybe I was getting too tired to do this (I had woken up at 4am and was still online blah blah…), but I was determined.

So I took a deep breath and decided to try one more time.

This is the order that has to happen when taming Ban’thalos with this method:
(Be in BM spec)
Position yourself between the pet’s spawn area and the lake in front of Sanctuary
Fly up to his range, which is very high
Hit dismount on flyer (thanks Blizz for adding this step)
shoot Ban’thalos with gun or bow
disengage with back facing the lake, land in the water or you die
get trap down
hit deterrence when he attacks you, especially if he uses ‘Harsh Moonlight’
hit tame beast

Flying up to Ban’thalos

This is what actually happened when I tried to get Ban’thalos:
I was OK until landing in the water…
I tried to jump out of the water, and I got stuck in the wall…had to waste deterrence
I laid my trap and ran around trying to get him to fly into it…he did not
I forgot to hit tame beast…ok ok, I admit that I haven’t tamed a pet in almost a year or more, but that is really embarrassing
I finally hit tame beast with 15% health or less left, was sure I would die

After taming this pain (note health bar)

But SCORE– I tamed Ban’thalos!!!  I named him PITA without a second thought.

So I guess it was a good thing I missed out on this pet all those times in cata.  Since I could barely tame him at 87, I am sure there is no way I would have done it at 85.

As promised, here are more warlock transmogs…starring my main, Chatmay!  I tried to make each outfit have at least one warlock piece in it.

The Grim Reaper

Pictured outside Naxxaramus in Dragonblight, this is the Valorous Plagueheart Circlet and Valorous Plagueheart Shoulderpads with Meteor Chaser’s Raiment, Ebony Flame Gloves, and the warlock quest item, Staff of Justified Sins.

Guarding Warlock HQ

This outfit just requires a lot of farming- the Felheart Tier set.  Chat is shown in this picture without the belt (more slimming), and I do not have the gloves- using Gossamer Gloves.  The staff is another Naxx piece, Sulfur Stave, but it is the same model as a staff from vanilla.

Red Hot Baby

This outfit centers around Merciless Gladiator’s Dreadweave Mantle.  I used a lot of different pieces here: Red Mageweave Headband, Crimson Silk Vest, Infernoweave Gloves and Boots, Leggings of Ancient Magics, Captain Sanders’ Sash, Incineratus, and Swampchill Fetish.

Ravenheart

Using Dreadweave Hood and Conqueror’s Deathbringer Gloves, this is a black look with Vicious Fireweave Shoulders, Thistlefur Robe, Bands of the Benevolent, Runecloth Belt, Kilix’s Silk Slippers, and Origin of Nightmares.

I think I am going to use the 3rd outfit for a while now.  Hope you like these!

It only made sense that with guildies that love collecting outfits and transmogrification coming up- we should have a guild fashion show! We started promoting the fashion show early.

Here is a video I made to promote it on our guild site and explain the rules and categories.  We also talked it up in guild chat. We had seven categories for guildies to be fashionably creative with and one category for newbies to fashion:

  1. Elemental Showdown: Put together one outfit describing an element: fire, air, water, life or earth.
  2. Profession: Dress up as any in-game profession or RL profession.
  3. The Shirt: An outfit that uses a WOW shirt crafted or quest.
  4. Seasonal: Outfit that describes a season (summer, spring, winter, fall). Only one holiday item can be used.
  5. Accessory This!: Best use of a weapon, offhand, wand, companion pet, mount, or hunter pet with an outfit.
  6. I’m really horde: Dress up as a villian.
  7. Your Class Through the years: One piece of armor from each expansion that shows you are a “insert class name here” (level 60, 70, 80, 85).
  8. Fashion, Huh? : For those that are new to dressing up.
We had around seven guildies participating in the show and about that many or more in the audience.  Audience members were given Origami Beetles and fireworks to use when they really liked an outfit.

Start of the Show

Waiting Our Turn

I asked three judges from outside the guild to attend, and they judged each category taking into consideration creativing and who the audience cheered for the most.  Prizes worth around 100g were given for each category.

Taraloria won 2 categories

Guild Fisherwoman

A Fashion, Huh Winner

We then had a Best Overall, which was voted on by everyone present.  Mirhana was voted Best Overall, and she received the money for 310 riding.
Here are pictures of the categories Mirahna won:

My main is Chatmay the warlock, but I also have Meridia the holy priest.  I have tried every healing class at least once, but priest is my favorite right now.  I have never tried disc, I have been holy from 1-85!  I love it.

Firework

Meridia the Priest

Today I saw that Kamalia posted about a survey called Miss Medicina’s Circle of Healers survey. It has been being passed from healer to healer to fill out since 1999!  I should STRESS here that I am not an expert healer by any means, so I am just doing this survey for fun.

So here’s how it works.

Post this questionnaire, with your answers, on your blog. Pick the healing class you know most about (or is the focus of your blog) for the questionnaire, and then send it over to another healing blogger you know and love who heals with a DIFFERENT class. Include a link to the blogger who sent you the questionnaire, as well as a link to the blogger to whom you are sending it.

1. What is the name, class, and spec of your primary healer?
My 85 healer right now is Meridia, holy priest, on Terokkar.

2. What is your primary group healing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans)

I consider myself an excellent healer.  That being said, I do not enjoy 5-mans as much as the only healer.  Any time there is a bad tank, low dps, or myself being blamed for people dying for whatever reason I get pissed off.  So I enjoy healing raids more.  Right now my problem is getting the gear for current raids since they require heroic level/valor gear.

In raids, I love 25 mans, but there are very few on my server now for whatever reason.  Every BH and other is always 10 man, and as someone who has always raid healed… I do not want to stress myself about 2 healing a raid.  I dunno, maybe this makes me fail heals. lol

3. What is your favorite healing spell for your class and why?
OK on to healing.  It is hard for me to pick one healing spell for holy that I love the most.  I love the fact that we have tons of instant casts.  Prayer of Mending, Circle of Healing,  and when it procs instant flash heal are some of my faves.

4. What healing spell do you use least for your class and why?
I know this is a huge no-no since cata came out, but I really hate the Heal spell.  It’s ok with chakra, but unless you are just bad with mana I feel that it doesn’t really give much heal for the cast time.  Unfortunately, it saves the most mana.

5. What do you feel is the biggest strength of your healing class and why?
I have seen many healers die because they aren’t healing themselves when they take damage.  Because of this, I feel that Desperate Prayer is a huge plus to holy and has saved me many times.

6. What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your healing class and why?
I feel like I am great at raid heals, but I have had trouble in the past at times when assigned to tank healing.  Like I said, I am not a healing expert so not sure why.

7. In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best healing assignment for you?
Always raid heals please.  Although towards the end of LK, I solo healed a Naxx 25 man as well as several other things.

8. What healing class do you enjoy healing with most and why?

As much as I enjoy my holy priest, I have currently a level 58 resto druid.  Maybe it is just the current level and content I am doing in 5 mans, but she is AWESOME.  I 2-manned BRD at level 51 with a tank paladin.  I feel like there is nothing I couldn’t heal at that level on her right now.  We will wait and see how she does at 85 though.

9. What healing class do you enjoy healing with least and why?
OMG I HATE healing as holy pally.  They have added some new healing spells for paladins since I did it last, but it was not fun for me.

10. What is your worst habit as a healer?
Since Cata came out, I have really had to relearn healing as holy.  Mainly cause I am a mana hog.  I was using mana intensive spells before and didn’t realize it too much.  Now I am using different spells, but on harder fights I am still finding myself getting out my shadowfiend or having to Hymn of Hope.

11. What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while healing?
If I ever have to yank someone with that new spell that pisses me off.  Or having to dispell someone who gets into something they could have avoided that causes them to not move or whatever.  These are taking away from my healing!  learn to stay out of bad stuff.

12. Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other healers for PvE healing?
Yes

13. What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a healer?
I do not use recount healing meter too much.  Yes, I want to do a certain amount on there, but I don’t think it takes into account my PWS, which I use on tanks.  I also tend to not overheal very much at all compared to many other healers I have noticed.  So they might be number one on heals done, but if you look at overheals they are like 50% overhealing.

If everyone stays alive, and if I make big saves when a bad pull happens I know I am doing a good job.

14. What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your healing class?
People right now seem to be confused about what holy priests are capable of.  I am told sometimes that I should be tank healing, when I feel that we are better for raid heals.  Also, I know of many priests who are commanded to change specs to disc because it is “better”… whatever!

15. What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new healers of your class to learn?
I have seen chakra not being used correctly.  I have seen holy priests who didn’t spec into lightwell trying to do firelands raiding.  I’ve also seen mana problems with new 85s, but like I said I dealt with that too.  Gear makes a huge difference.

16. If someone were to try to evaluate your performance as a healer via Recount or World of Logs, what sort of patterns would they see (i.e. lots of overhealing, low healing output, etc)?
See above.

17. Haste or Crit or Mastery and why?
I’ve gone for haste first.  When I use Heal and Greater Heal, I don’t want it taking forever.

18. What healing class do you feel you understand least?
I am still learning druid healing, and I don’t have all the spells on my alt yet.  I must not understand pally healing as well, like I said it sucked when I did it.  I have resto shaman down, I just prefer to go elemental spec.

19. What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in healing?
I am currently only using Decursive.  I cannot stand relying on Healium, Vuh-do, or any of those.  I find myself looking at all the junk on my screen and not paying attention to the fight.  That being said, I am still looking to maybe change my UI on my holy priest only just for easier click-healing in raids.

20. Do you strive primarily for balance between your healing stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why?
This question doesn’t specify whether this includes main stats, but I am going for int and spirit then haste, then crit/mastery about even.

I am supposed to link this survey to someone else, so I’d like to tag…
Zahraah of Pugnacious Priest even though she is same class.

Training Classes for WOW Players

One night I rolled a horde alt on another server just for fun.  I somehow found myself in a new guild, and they were discussing plans to have “training classes” by upper level members in the guild for lowbies.

My guild doesn’t have many lower level toons anymore, but we have lots of 85s rolling alts.  Which means they are learning how to play classes for the first time in many cases.  So I decided that the training class might be a good idea for our guild too.

I have been promoting the events as more of a Q&A session about a certain class with a moderator who has played each spec (or more than one moderator if I can’t find that kind of player).  I have played every spec on warlock, so I decided to host a warlock class first.

We had about five or six other locks attend.  One was from another guild, but I mostly kept this for guildies only.

I first went over lock basics of each spec, and then tried opening it up for questions on vent….Silence.  But then I got the standard lock questions everyone wants to know- what is the best leveling spec, what is the best minion to use, etc.  I answered these then moved on to things like glyphing and talent tree points.

Everyone who came said this was useful, so I am already planning a death knight class and a druid class the next few weeks.  I hope we can cover all the classes by the end of May or early June.  (one class per week usually)

Here is a picture of us near the Stormwind target dummies where we met:

Locks in Force

I think this event would be best for guilds with a lot of lower levels, but there is always room to learn more about your class!
